Rollers

UAB Laumetris makes trailed fluted rollers, having the working width of 4 to 8 metres. These rollers can include a soil surface leveller or be provided without it.

The rollers are used for the preparation of the soil surface for seeding and for rolling over the soil after seeding.

When preparing the soil for seeding by rollers, earth lumps are broken up, the surface is evened and multiplexed – this allows for even and good-quality insertion of the seeds. Using rollers prior to the seeding of winter crops is especially useful.

When rolling over the surface right after seeding, the seeds get in closer contact with the earth – this allows a better and more equal germination, leading to increased yields. The more rugged the surface and the coarser the soil surrounding the seeds, the bigger positive effect is gained by using rollers. When rolling over freshly-seeded crops, the surface stones are pressed into the soil –    this reduces the risk of these stones getting into a combine and damaging it during the harvesting phase. When rolling over winter crops in the springtime, the crust on the soil surface is broken, more air passes to the plant roots. Abundant rain after seeding can lead to the formation of an earth crust, which prevents the stems from cutting through the surface. In such situations, a roller becomes an indispensable tool for saving the crops.

The rolling over requires relatively small power, while the performed useful work is big. This is a cheaper solution, compared to other soil working methods, in order to achieve more plentiful and stable harvest.

The working parts of the densifying rollers, produced by UAB Laumetris, are Cambridge-type discs of two widths, made of modified shock-resistant cast iron. Discs, mounted on an axle, turning on three ball bearing housings, form a section. Narrower discs are placed between the broader ones; during operation, the narrower discs move freely and clean accumulated earth. Three ball bearing housings protect the axle of a section from bending.

The fluted rollers can be combined with a levelling board, which is attached in front of the rollers and operated by hydraulic transmission. The levelling board consists of separate segments. The working speed of the fluted rollers is 12 km/h.
